What is Nicotiana

Nicotiana (scientific name: Nicotiana) is a semi-cold hardy annual/biennial/perennial herb of the genus Nicotiana in the family Solanaceae, native to South America, including Bolivia and Argentina, North America, Oceania, and Africa. It is a member of the tobacco family. The leaves are rhizomatous and rosette-shaped. From spring to fall, the flower stalks grow out from among the leaves and produce five-petaled flowers that are tubular and star-shaped at the base. Flower colors include the original white, pink, red, light green, and yellow. In the past, it was only cultivated by the monopoly corporation, but since the privatization of the corporation, it has been cultivated by the private sector for the purpose of flower viewing. Dwarf garden varieties are also available. There are many varieties of Nicotiana flowers, and more than 65 species are known worldwide.
