Winter Begonia (Scientific name: Begonia × cheimantha) is a non-cold-hardy perennial herb of the genus Begonia in the family Begoniaceae that blooms in winter. It is also known by Japanese aliases such as Fuyuzaki Begonia (Winter-blooming Begonia) and Hana Begonia (Flower Begonia), and in English as Lorraine begonia or Christmas begonia. It is a hybrid cross between Begonia socotrana (bulbous) and Begonia dregei, belonging to the "Begonia Cheimantha" group. The plant height ranges from 15 to 40 cm. The leaves are green, glossy on both sides, ovate in shape with entire margins, and arranged alternately. From Christmas to the New Year, it extends racemes from the leaf axils and blooms many small single flowers in pink, red, or white. It is sensitive to cold and is popular as an indoor potted flower.
