What is Iyokan
Iyokan (Citrus iyo) is an evergreen shrub and its fruit of the species Citrus iyo, genus Citrus, family Rutaceae, order Sapindales, native to Japan.
It is the second most produced citrus fruit in Japan after mikan (satsuma mandarin), and is mainly cultivated in Ehime Prefecture.
It belongs to the group of tangors, which are hybrids between mandarins (tangerines) and oranges.
Other varieties in the same group include Kiyomi, Setoka, Harumi, Tankan, and Murcott.
The fruit is appreciated for its fragrance, sweetness, and juiciness, but it is often avoided because its peel is thick and hard to remove compared to mikan.
