It is a wild perennial herb that grows wild on Mount Emei, a 3000-meter-high mountain in Sichuan, China, which is considered one of the three most sacred mountains in Buddhism in China. It is believed to have been introduced to Japan in 1981. The leaves are green, glossy, ovate, and have a full margin. The leaves are 1-2.5 cm long and 05.-1 cm wide. The stem tip produces a funnel-shaped, pink flower with a 2-3 cm diameter consisting of five long lobes and five short lobes (adaxial lobes) at the tip, which blooms from March to May.
