Cutleaf groundcherry (Japanese name: Hiroha-furin-hozuki, Scientific name: Physalis angulata) is an annual herb in the genus Physalis of the family Solanaceae, native to North America. It grows as a weed in fields and on roadsides. It is also known by the English name cutleaf groundcherry and the Chinese name Kǔzhí (苦蘵).

Difference between Physalis angulata and Physalis minima (Sennari-hozuki)
Although they resemble each other:
Physalis angulata has wider leaves and shorter pedicels (flower stalks) (1 cm).
Physalis minima has narrower leaves and longer pedicels (3-7 cm).
