What is Japanese torreya

Japanese torreya or kaya (scientific name: Torreya nucifera) is an evergreen coniferous tree in the family Taxaceae native to Japan and the Korean peninsula. It grows naturally in the temperate zone of Japan from southeast Honshu to Kyushu. The bark color is gray-brown and has vertical cracks. The strain is dioecious, and in the spring, the male flower is a long oval yellow flower, and the female flower is sessile and dense at the tip of the branch with a single ovule in the center. The branches are opposite. On both sides of the branch, flat linear, sharp, hard lobules are attached in parallel. Oval seeds form after the flowers, ripen red-purple in the fall, and in the fall of the following year the skin rips, causing light-brown hard seeds to fall. The fruit will be edible if you get out of the ac. The material is pale yellow and dense and is used for go board and engraving materials.
