Pandanus tectorius , commonly known as screwpine, is a tropical evergreen broad-leaved high tree of the the Pandanaceae pandanus genus native to Southeast Asia, Okinawa in Japan , on a beach and street trees planted in Okinawa. Out many tentacle-like aerial roots from the stem. The sharp spines on the midrib of the leaf or leaves behind. Dioecious, the female resembling a pineapple-orange fruit. Fruit is not edible for humans, and coconut crab, hermit crab dish. Rather than stiff leaves and fruit is eaten by humans in the soft part of the shoot in Okinawa Yaeshima ilands stir fry and tempura, eat. Use the Candy colored and flavored, crush the leaves in Thailand. Leaf mats and roof thatching, aerial fiber becomes the material of the rope used hats, baskets, etc. This is resembes to Octopus tree ,however they are different.
