What is LilyLilium bosniacum｜National Flower of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Lilium-bosniacum or commonly called the Bosnian Golden Lily (scientific name: Lilium bosniacum) is a perennial herbaceous bulb plant in the lily family, Liliaceae, native to Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is the national flower of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Bosnia, it is called Zlatni Ljiljan (golden lily), Bosanski Ljiljan (Bosnian lily), or in English Golden lily. It grows wild on karst slopes and ridges at altitudes of 1,200 to 1,900 meters in Bosnia. The bulb is oval, 6-7 cm in diameter, and yellowish in color. 30-90 cm long stems emerge from the tip of the bulb with numerous green lanceolate leaves. 1-3 flowers are produced at the top of the stem in May and June. The flowers are golden to yellowish-orange or yellowish-red without spots, about 6 cm in diameter, fragrant, and bloom downward. The petals are thick and inverted backward. The anthers are reddish brown and protrude from the petals. It has been used as the symbol of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the republic's flag and coat of arms since 1992. As a rare species, it is listed on the "Red List" of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
