What is Chives

Chives (Science name: Allium schoenoprasum) are native to Eurasia and are bulbous plants of the family Amaryllidaceae. Leaves are fresh green, long and hollow, weak at high temperature and dry, and strong against cold. In the early summer, a spherical shape is formed by attaching a large number of six-valve flowers to the tip of the flower stem which originated from the leaf. Leaves and flowers are used for appreciation, dry flowers, leashes, herbs, and for cooking such as salads and soups. Asatsuki (A. schoenoprasum var. foliosum) is a mutant of this species It looks alike. Also there is an Allium giganteum (scientific name: Allium giganteum) that has the same Allium genus blossoms.
