What is Cedrus libani

Cedrus libani, Lebanese cedar or the cedar of Lebanon (scientific name: Cedrus libani)is a very tall evergreen coniferous tree of the genus Cedrus, native to Lebanon and Syria. It is the national flower of the Republic of Lebanon.
It appears in the Bible and was used as a building material for Solomon's Temple in ancient Egypt, as well as for ships and coffins. The tree grows to a height of 35 to 45 meters. When young, the tree has a conical crown and a trunk with several branches. As the tree matures, the crown becomes an umbrella-like overhanging tree with a vast atmosphere. It has long and short branches, and leaves are densely clustered on the short branches. The leaves are needle-like, 0.5 to 3.5 cm long. It takes more than 25 years to flower. It is dioecious, with female and male flowers on a single tree. It produces caudate inflorescences with blue to brown flowers.

The wood has an aromatic fragrance and is effective in repelling insects, so it is used for the bottom board of wardrobes, etc. However, it is not suitable for structural timbers due to its many knots and weak strength. It is now designated as an endangered species due to over logging in the past. The species name "libani" means "of Lebanon.
In the same genus is the Himalayan cedar (scientific name: Cedrus deoda).
