What is Kawazu-zakura
Kawazu-zakur(Scientific name: Cerasus × kanzakura ‘Kawazu-zakura’)is a kind of cold-resistant deciduous autumn leaves small or tall tree " Cherry blossom (scientific name:Cerasus L.) " of the Rosaceae family, and is found in Kawazu-machi (Kawazu touwan, Izu peninsura , Shizuoka pref.) It originates in the place name.
From February to the beginning of March, in advance of Somei yoshino (scientific name: Cerasus ×yedoensis), it blooms the five-petaled flower of crimson single-layered flowers.
Parents are said to be a natural hybrid of the early blooming Prunus Speciosa (Oshima cherry) and Cerasus campanulata ,(Kan-hizakura, Scientific name: Cerasus campanulata).
