What is Eurya emarginata

Eurya emarginata or hamahisakaki (scientific name: Eurya emarginata) is an evergreen shrub native to Japan and East Asia.
The leaves are leathery, glossy, tough, and thick-walled, and remain green and hairless in autumn and winter. It is dioecious.
From November to December, the inflorescence grows from the leaf axils and produces small white flowers similar to camellia. At the same time as flowering, it produces black spherical fruits on the previous year's branches.
It is often found near the seashore and is used as a low fence. There is a similar tree, himesakaki, but it is different because its flowering season is in spring. It is also similar to the inutsuge (scientific name: Ilex crenata).
