What is Hydorangea prolifera

Hydorangea prolifera (Kikuzaki-shichihenge, Scientific name: Hydrangea serrata f. prolifera ) is one of the gardening products of cold-resistant deciduous shrubs of the family Hydrangeae.
Mountain hydrangea is a hydrangea growing naturally in the mountainous area, and flower full of rich flowers will bloom by reducing hydrangea flower a little. The leaves are thin and shiny ellipsoidal shapes, which correspond to branches. Hydorangea prolifera gives inflorescences to the tip of a long flower stem. Bisexual flowers in the center are degenerated after the buds have fallen before the surrounding decorative flowers bloom. The decorative flowers are not flowers, but the sepals are ovate and overlapped with star shaped double-blooming seems to be a chrysanthemum. The name "seven flowers" is attached to the name, but there are not many petal numbers or stage numbers. In ordinary hydrangeas, the flower color changes depending on the acidity of the soil, but in the case of seven stage flowers it changes like white - light blue - light purple - pink etc regardless of the acidity of the soil. Seven flowers were cultivated from mountain hydrangea in the Edo period, and Siebold introduced it in "Flora Yaponica". However, since nobody has seen it, it has been considered a "phantom flower". After that, it was found at the foot of Rokko Mountain. Inflorescence diameter is 7 - 18 cm, decorative flower diameter is 1.7 - 3 cm.
