What is Japanese snow bell

Japanese snow bell or Egonoki (scientific name: Styrax japonica) is native to Japan, hardy fallen leaves Kodaki trees of Ekonokiaceae. In the early summer, extend the inflorescences from the branches and attach small floral with white or pink aroma downward in a tufted shape. Leaves are small, reciprocal, long elliptical, pointed at the apex and serrated on the leaf edge. A cute fruit with an off-white egg shape will be around July. From September to October the epidermis will turn brown and be broken and seeds will begin to appear. The pericarp contains the toxic component egosaponin (egosaponin) so it will not be edible. Uses are used for garden trees, park trees, firewood charcoal and the like. In a similar tree, Styrax obassia ( Hakuunboku,Baiyun tree) there is. The way to distinguish is that the leaves are bigger in Hakuunboku. In leaf shape, Egonoki (S. japonica) is long and slender, Hakuunboku(S. obassia) is rounded. In addition, the length of the floral pattern is long in Egonoki (S. japonica) and short in Hakuunboku(S. obassia).
