What is Sugi

Japanese cedar or Sugi (scientific name: Cryptomeria japonica) is an endemic species of Japan. It is an evergreen coniferous tree of the cypress family. The tree shape extends straight toward the heavens with a slender. It grows naturally along the shores of humid mountains in the western part of the Tohoku region of Shikoku, Kyushu, and Yakushima. The leaves are green and needle-like. The flowers are dioecious, and one plant has a male flower with only stamens and a female flower with only pistils. Afforestation is also active and many activities are taking place in Japan, including Yoshino.

Generic name: Cryptomeria japonica, Scientific name: Cryptomeria japonica, Origin: Japan, Distribution: Honshu West of Shikoku, Kyushu, and Yakushima in the Tohoku region of the Environment: damp mountains, tree height: 20 to 50 m, diameter: 2 to 16 m, lifespan: 2000 to 7200 years for Jomon cedar, 3000 years for Daio cedar on Yakushima (Average is about 500 years), bark: brown, leaf: acicular, gender, dioecious, male inflorescence: spikelet, male inflorescence: oval, male flower color: yellow, male flowering place: previous year's twig Axillary, male flower length: 0.5-0.8 cm, female flower shape: spherical, female flower color: green, female flowering place: blooming downward one at the tip of the previous twig, female flower length: 0.5 cm, flowering period: February-4 Moon, pollination: airborne flowers, remarks: a cause of pollinosis.
