Arisaema limbatum(Arisaema limbatum var. ionostemma) is a perennial plant in the family Araceae and genus Arisaema, similar to Jack in the pulpit (scientific name:Arisaema serratm) , and endemic to Japan. It grows naturally in wild mountain forests in Honshu-Shikoku and Kyushu. It is a sex-changing plant and is a "hermaphrodite," meaning that it changes from a male plant to a female plant when it grows. The plant is 40 to 80 cm tall, and produces two bird's-footed compound leaves from the bulb. Before the leaves open in May or June, drooping inflorescences grow from the stem tips and are surrounded by flame bracts. The flame bracts are dark green or green (rare) with conspicuous white vertical lines. The lower edge of the opening of the flame bracts protrudes like an earlobe, hence the name of the flower. The flowers are followed by green fruits that ripen to red. The whole plant is poisonous.
