It was introduced to Japan via China in the late Edo period. It is also called Pot Marigold (Pot marigold). The plant is 30-90 cm tall. The rhizomatous leaves are spatula-shaped and the stem leaves are oblong. From March to June, the plant produces single or double orange or yellow flowers with a diameter of about 10 cm from the stem tip. The flowers are one-day flowers, opening in the morning and closing in the evening. After flowering, it produces a thin fruit.
