Onaga ebine, scientific name: Calanthe masuca, is evergreen perennial plant of the Orchidaceae Ebine genus growing wild in Okinawa and Amami. A native is an orchid to have and grows in colonies and blooms in the forest floor under the broad leaf. The interval of the big leaf produces a slim flower stalk in summer and lengthens raceme from the tip and starts lips form flower and a spur of the purple ,red or pink. It is called Summer ebine.Also, crane orchid may be called Summer Ebine, too. It has decreased by environmental deterioration and is considered to be endangered II of Ministry of the Environment (VU).
